Umoona CDEP first began operations in March 1995. It began with 100 participants, 2 salaried staff workers and very minimal office equipment and furniture in the conference room of the Umoona building. At present there are approximately 150 participants, we have an administration building, sewing room and store building and a kitchen which were renovated from old sheds. There is also a shed for the mechanics and a shed which is currently going up for the arts and craft group.

ARTS & CRAFT

Aboriginal women do dot painting, pottery, Screen printing, and other arts and craft.

 

SEWING

providing a service mainly for the Aboriginal Community for winter and summer clothing, curtains quilts and pillow cases, backpacks. We will usually try and make whatever a customer wants, if it can be made on a machine.

CATERING/KITCHEN

Provide breakfast and lunch for the workers as well as the old people in the community. We cater for meetings and will travel reasonable distances from Coober Pedy for meetings which are held on the lands.  

STORE

Provides weekly meat orders, grocery, toys, clothing, shoes, swags and anything that is reasonable for sale through the store.

BUILDING

Participants have done DEET Training courses in Civil Construction, painting, building houses for Umoona Community .

MECHANICS

Service all CDEP vehicles as well as other vehicles in the community.

LANDSCAPING

Landscaping around the community, clean yards for people for a reasonable fee, depending on how big the job is. Daily maintenance around the CDEP grounds, watering trees, taking away rubbish etc.
