Dodginomics
is a subtle yet poignant reality of the world this time.
It tackles the very nature of the ever present society
that we live in and are now inundated with since the
9/11. This sonic portrait has a barrage of beats
intertwined with the haunting shrill of a gumleaf, and a
to-the-point mc'd twist on the world in its present
climate.

From
the late nineteenth century to the late
1960's....Australian governments, as a practice and as a
policy, removed part-Aboriginal children from their
mothers, parents, families and communities, often by
force....No-one knows exactly how many babies and
children were removed...All that one can say for certain
is that in the seventy or so years in question tens of
thousands of babies and children were removed...It is
false to claim that the motives of those who made or
executed the separation policy were of a social welfare
kind. They were driven by altogether different
motives...The encouragement of racial outbreeding was at
the core of (the) radical plan for the solution of the
"Aboriginal problem". Child removal was an essential
means...One reads, time and again, of non-Aboriginal
Australians for whom the incapacity to grasp the depth of
suffering of Aborigines lies at the heart of the harm
they inflicted.
(Excerpts
from the text of the Stephen Murray-Smith Memorial
Lecture delivered by Robert Manne at the Victorian State
Library on 27/11/97)
Written
by Marcia Howard, this song is based on Margaret Tucker's
true story. It is one of tens of thousands of stories of
the stolen generations of Aboriginal children.
