Koonibba Child Care Centre
Koonibba Child Care Centre is part of the Multi-functional Aboriginal Children Service run at Koonibba. The MACS is funded by the Federal Government through the Department of Health, Housing, Local Government and Community Services. The Koonibba Community Council Inc. is the sponsoring body and we have a Parent Management Committee. The Centre was built in 1989, and first licensed as a Child Care Centre in 1991. The maximum number of children that can be cared for at the Child Care Centre at any one time is eighteen: twelve over two years old and six under two years old. Care is provided from 8:00am until 4:30pm and breakfast is provided for children before they go to the children's Parent Centre. The staff work until 5:00pm to pack away equipment and prepare resources for the next day's programme. The Centre currently has a staff of 8 which consists of 3 trained workers, 1 cook, 3 untrained workers and 1 CDEP worker. Aboriginal people from the Community and students doing the Diploma in Child Care also do relief work in the Centre. We aim to provide a safe, secure environment for the children and staff: - to be flexible, efficient, friendly and non-judgmental - to give support for families - to care about all children and feel responsible towards them, especially those placed in our care - to see the program reflect the values of the diverse family and cultural backgrounds - to facilitate intellectual development by widening the child's experience in order to increase knowledge, basic concepts and skills - to recognise the parents as the prime carers and educators of their children and to value parental participation in all activities at the Centre. |
