EXHIBITION OBJECTIVES To present knowledge and information on Aboriginal science and technology to illustrate the importance of this knowledge To promote an alternative to Western perspectives in science and technology Present science and technology as an integral part of Australia's living culture Acknowledge the contribution of Aboriginal and Islanders people in environmental and technological achievements in Australia Explore the similarities and contrasts of different knowledge and belief systems, particularly in the approaches to the understanding of nature Incorporate an indigenous perspective in science centres and museums throughout Australia and possible internationally Provide information and stimulus for teachers to incorporate Aboriginal content in their own science curriculum in schools To gain further acceptance in the wider Australian society of the importance of Aboriginal knowledge and increase recognition of the knowledge holders To have as many people as possible participate in the sharing of this knowledge To involve Aboriginal and Islander people in all stages of the development, fabrication and implementation of the exhibition and its education programs with significant community consultation and development of employment opportunities To develop high quality hands-on experiences that stimulate, entertain and educate our visitors In addition to these larger centres, a smaller travelling component of the exhibition will tour Aboriginal communities and regional areas around Australia as a component of our existing Outreach Program. Anangu Education Services will support the development of this smaller exhibition. |
