INDIGENOUS SCIENCE PRACTICES

INDIGENOUS KNOWLEDGE AND LIFESTYLE PRACTICES

An innovative exhibition being developed by The INVESTIGATOR Science and Technology Centre in Adelaide.

The exhibits will invite interactivity and participation to explore science through Indigenous knowledge.

The applied knowledge of Aboriginal cultures of Australia having sustained both people and the Australian environment for so long offer a unique contribution to science's technology practice.

Physically the exhibition will begin a journey from proposals developed in collaboration with Aboriginal communities and organisations across Australia.

From this genesis it will find a first home in the Investigator interactive exhibition space.

Afterwards, components of the exhibition will travel back to the communities for the custodians of the knowledge to see and to other national and international museums and science centres.

The vision is to present another perspective to that offered by the Western understanding of science and technology and represent the contributions to science made by indigenous cultures.

This exhibition will be the first to explore indigenous science through the sight, sound, touch and feel of a hands-on museum.

The timeliness of the curatorial premise has generated interest and support from innovative curators and organisations internationally.

The interrogative direction of curatorial design and the shift in our understanding of science, technology and knowledge provide the framework for this exhibition.
